Coronavirus: anti-infection seats on the plane

Because of the current circumstances, right now we cannot travel. But when travelling becomes accessible again, new safety measures will have to be considered. That is why the Italian Avioninterios (specialised in aircraft seats) came up with two projects of anti-infection seats intended to minimize contacts and interactions between passengers on the plane. Both projects could be helpful in reducing the chances of coronavirus contamination.
The first project is called “Glassafe” and it is the simplest and less expensive of the two to realise. It consists of little, transparent panels that will be placed between passengers sitting in the same row. These panels would minimize contacts and interactions on the aircraft and could be removed once the health emergency will be over. There seems to be, however, two critical points: the separation between seats would not be total and the presence of panels would make passengers movements between seats rather uncomfortable and limited.
The second project is called “Janus”. In this case, the idea is reversing the position of the middle seat. This would ensure maximum isolation among passengers sitting next to each other while maintaining the same comfort. Again, at least two critical points appear. The first is that this new organization may require more space per seat, preventing airlines from maximizing revenue per flight. The second is more health related: with this arrangement, the passenger travelling in the middle seat would have direct access to the two passengers sitting in the back row.
We just have to wait for new developments.
