Double-decker seats: will they change the way you travel by plane?
Added on Fri October 16th, 2020
Double-decker seats could transform airplane cabins and become as a possible solution for fliers looking for more protection from the spread of Covid-19. This project is called Zephyr Seat.
With Zephyr Seat, travellers will be able to have more privacy and comfort, whereas airlines company could provide double-decker seating in a 2-4-2 configuration which would allow the majority of global airlines to maintain the same seating density as offered by their existing premium economy cabins.
Zephyr’s double-decker concept utilizes the space that exists between a standard seat and an overhead bin. In this way, there will be more space for passenger legs.
The project for the double-decker seats is still in the initial phase and it was presented to airlines at the 2019 Airline Interiors Export at Hamburg. The next stage would be passing the product through the required safety tests, which could be a three-year process.
