THE UPGRADE OF VIRGIN AUSTRALIA CABIN INTERIORS
Added on Tue July 18th, 2023
Virgin Australia has started the renovation of all cabin interiors of the old Boeing and Jet 737 fleet.
The investment, which is already in progress and costing around AUD 110 million, will be in place for at least two years.
The project involves both a new seat configuration to increase the number of seats in economy class and a completely new design with a ribbed backing feature to improve comfort and ergonomics.
It will be used the same products as those used for the new 737 Max fleet introduced by the airline on 8th July, so the old 737-700s and 800s will be configured to seat 182 passengers in a two-class seating, business and economy.
New cabin partitions will be installed, allowing up to 12 more seats in economy class without sacrificing legroom.
On the other hand, the eight business class seats will have an extendable leg rest and a storage compartment in addition to personal devices.
Speaking of technology, Virgin will not install in-flight entertainment and passengers could use their own devices.
All these upgrades were made thanks to the feedback received over the past two years from guests, as Paul Jones, the airline’s chief customer and digital officer commented.
On 28th June Virgin Australia took delivery of its first 737 Max 8, which it will use on flights from Cairns to Tokyo Haneda.
This is the first of 33 737 Maxes that the airline will take delivery of over the next five years. Virgin Australia has eight Max 8s and 25 larger Max 10s on order.
