Periodically, airlines update their onboard products to provide the best possible experience to passengers and keep up with the latest trends. Now, it’s Air India’s turn, which has introduced a three-class configuration with new products on the Airbus A320neo.
As stated by Campbell Wilson, CEO and Managing Director of Air India, the upgrade of the narrowbody fleet for a world-class airline like Air India complements the existing experience on the A350 fleet and new B777s, as well as all other widebodies set to be upgraded in the next two years. Air India has unveiled a three-cabin configuration on two retrofitted Airbus A320neos and announced its plans to retrofit all A320neos planes. The premium economy class will feature 24 seats offering a 32-inch seat pitch, a four-inch recline, a portable electronic device (PED) holder, and a USB charging port.
The remaining A320neos will be retrofitted over the next year, but new deliveries will already come in the three-cabin configuration. The aircraft will have 164 seats, including 8 in business class, 24 in premium economy, and 132 in economy class.
After placing a record order for 470 aircraft, Air India currently operates 117 aircraft in its fleet and will receive a new aircraft every six days throughout 2024. For its seats, Air India has partnered with RECARO for the premium economy and economy classes to ensure a relaxing experience. The unique seat design is built with durable, lightweight materials that contribute to the seat’s long lifecycle while supporting a reduced carbon footprint for the aircraft.
